1.. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? (i.e. of film openings)
I chose the crime drama because i found this genre interesting and i feel as though there is a large audience that finds the crime genre entertaining and engaging aswell. Throughout my research and planning i looked at and analysed many different opening sequences for the crime and thriller genre and i used this knowledge that i gained from this analysis and applied it to my media product. Although the final product didn't turn out how i wanted there was still elements that i applied to it that made it come across as a crime drama such as the narrative which is about two spies where one steals a businessman laptop.

2. How does your media product represent particular social groups ?
My media product represents particular social groups as the film presents a very stereotypical business man working in the city by wearing a nice suit, working in a big office, and having someone open a door for him which shows his superiority and upper class as he is respected and has people opening doors for him. In addition to this there are no female actors in the media product and this is because I felt as though a male gender would be better suited for this crime genre as men are stereotypically seen as more likely to be in these situations and women are seen as more sensible and not as violent as men. There is also a disparity in class within my media product as the business man is presented as very sophisticated and upper class by the clothing he's wearing and he's body language in comparison to the spy's who are presented as slightly more middle class as they are still wearing nice clothing but the context of what is going on (stealing the businessman's laptop) indicates that they are slightly more lower class. I thought that showing the spy as slightly more lower class was essential as the criminals or "bad guys" within crime films are stereotypically seen as lower class. |
3. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
A media institution such as Paramount wouldn't distribute my media product because my product has been done on a very low budget and the actors aren't know by a large amount of people. In addition to this the equipment that i used and software for editing that was used is also not as sophisticated as some of the major hollywood blockbuster's and so this would also be another reason that this media institution wouldn't distribute my media product. One sort of media institution that may distribute my film is the company Film4 because they are not as popular as the hollywood blockbuster's and Film4 distribute more lower budget media products and more British Independent films so this would be a more suitable and appropriate distributor. In addition to this another huge media distributor such as Universal also wouldn't distribute my media product because they wouldn't make much money off of it so therefore it wouldn't be financially beneficial for them to distribute my media product and wouldn't be worth their time. |
4. Who would be the audience for your media product?
The audience for my media product would typically be people who enjoy the crime\ drama genre and through the research that i carried out about target audience i learnt and understood that my target audience is typically middle aged men who are 55+ however this secondary data that i found was found through an independent website called YouGov and so this information may not be entirely accurate and it is a generalisation of the target audience and it dosn't mean that every person that watches the film will be a 55+ year old male. Also because the cast and all the actors are very young this could attract a different type of audience and a younger audience as it may appeal to them swell so overall there will be an increase in the audience.

5. How did you attract/address your audience?
I have addressed my target audience as the final product is presented as very serious and it appeals to the specific target audience as other audiences such as teenage girls may not find this media product very entertaining or appealing. Through my research I learnt what appeals to my specific target audience and what type of things the want to see and find entertaining and I have found this out through the use of my primary research and the survey I created myself to find out the relevant information that I needed. After reviewing my media product I think my audience has widened and the type of people that will watch this will increase as theist that are used are all very young and this may appeal to a different type of audience. In addition to this the combination of both the crime and drama genre will also increase the audience as again it will appear to more people.

6. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
I've learnt about how to use the camera's effectively to film my media product and the type of shots that i should be using to make my media product look professional and good. In particular the camera i was working with was the LEGERIA and i learnt how to use the camera correctly. However some challenges i was faced with was the battery of the camera running out during times where i needed it, and also finding my footage that i've previously filmed although i was able to work around this and make it work out. I've also learnt how to use the tripod in my film so that this provides a stable shot which reduces the amount of wobbling that you would usually get when holding the camera by hand. In addition to this i've also learnt how to edit my media product together and cut parts that i don't want in my film. |
7. Looking back at your preliminary task (the continuity editing task), what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to full product?
In general i have learnt a lot since my preliminary task to my full product and i have developed skills and used them on my final product. At the beginning of the year when i made my preliminary task i had little editing knowledge and didn't know what type of camera shots looked effective or correct for the preliminary task however by the time i finished my final product i then found out that certain shots are appropriate for some media products. In addition to this i also used a tripod in my final product which i never used in my preliminary task and i found the use of this technology very beneficial for me and my media product because it provided stability making my film look more professional and reduced the amount of wobbling in the shots. I also feel as though my narrative plot has also developed as my preliminary task has a basic plot with not much storyline to it and my final piece has more of a engaging story to it that is more entertaining. I think that through the use of my research and planning has helped me a lot on understanding the type of media product i wanted to created and the target audience for it and the different types of film distributors. I also think that the planning i used was also very helpful as it provided me with a basic structure and guidelines of what i needed to go on and even though the final product wasn't exactly the same as the plan it was still very helpful because it provided me with a rough idea of what i needed to do and it also allowed me to improvise but still sticking roughly to the plan.
